I collected the early issues of Firestorm as a kid and thought he was neat. Yes, the costume is great!

The problems, to me then and now, was the (lack of) limitations to his powers. It was like Green Lantern but worse -- "I will turn the villain's nuclear bomb into a pickle! ZZZAPP". What could challenge such a guy?

Hey, Shag. Thanks for stopping by. To be honest, I was surprised how much I didn't like this issue, because I've always been fond of the character (not as fond as you obviously!) The first issue of The Fury of Firestorm is on the schedule for review next month; I'm guessing that one will fare better. By the way, your site does the character proud. I really loved the photo of the guy dressed as Firestorm at Comic-Con!

Cheers,
Andrew

Ouch. Admittedly the issue didn't age well, but I'd say that by comparison to other titles of 1978 this one was okay. I like that in some ways this is the reverse of Spider-Man. Instead of the outcast geek becoming the hero (always the victim of the jocks), the outcast jock becomes the hero (the victim of the geek).

With that said, I respect your opinion and hope you enjoy later issues better.
